Good morning West Texans and all you good, fine, friendly folks out there who wish you were . . .
SHOULD HE STAY OR SHOULD HE GO?
UPDATED: 3P.M. FRIDAY 1-9-9
Crab has made the right decision…here’s D.W.’s story:

D.W.’s got the latest on Mike Crabtree’s decision to stay at Tech for one more year and have the WR position renamed after him or to go to the NFL, make lots of money and try like hell to get a much worse attitude about life so he’ll fit in with those that play the position.

There’s a ton of interesting quotes in there on everything from Crab’s mentor to Mike Leach and his commitment to Texas Tech, so make sure you read it.
As for Crabtree, I think he should go pro unless he just wants to hang-out, enjoy the college life and take in everything Lubbock has to offer for another year. His draft stock will never be higher. Right now, even with a bum ankle we’re talking about sliding from the top of the first to the bottom of the first. Heck, that’s not so bad as you end up with a better team around you if you slide.
If he comes back, has more ankle problems he’s got troubles. Right now he can tell teams it is a one time deal. If it happens again though he’s injury-prone and fragile. If it happens again he slides not to the bottom of the first but to the third or fourth round maybe. Not good.
I hope he gets good counsel and that at the end of the day he does what HE wants to do and not what he thinks others want him to do. That’s hard for anyone, let alone a young adult with lots of forces around him.
One thing is for sure, those fans that lament kids coming out early and wail and moan that they should “stay in school” and “get that degree” sure do know how to gamble with other people’s money. I get sick and tired of those calls on the Show and luckily we don’t get many of them these days. Michael Crabtree owes Tech nothing at this point. He’s given his all while he’s been here and he has used college just as you should: To prepare yourself for life.
If Tech has Crabtree back next year great. If Crabtree is in the NFL making noise though, it may prove to be an even bigger recruiting tool for the Red Raiders than if he wins another award or 12 next year.
Either way, I’ve got a feeling Crabtree is gonna be just fine.

It would make absolutely no sense for Crab to come back. He’d have to start over with a new QB, and oh by the way, there’s the $20 million or so in guaranteed he’s got sitting on his plate.
It’s a tragic double-standard that those who drop out of college to start businesses and become successful are revered as geniuses with little need of an education. Athletes are looked down on for doing the same thing.
Agree with Nick and Hyatt.
Grateful for what we’ve had in Crab, who is making the so obviously right decision.
I know of very few millionaires to whom I feel a real sense of appreciation. I am sure that he’s within half a year of becoming one, and I will still be a grateful fan of his, even if he plays for the Redskins.
Crab going to the NFL might be the best possible ending to Tech’s season.
