Good evening West Texans and all you good, fine, friendly folks out there who wish you were . . .
DIXON GONE AGAIN . . .

It looks like the McKinner http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=57371&draftyear=2009&genpos=DE Dixon Experience is over again for Tech football if reports are correct that he’s been nailed by the NCAA and won’t be available for a while. The irony of this is that if you’re going to have it happen to a position in might as well be on the defensive front where Tech coaches have a logjam right now of (hopefully) talented players. This will place a premium on Brandon Sesay being the real-deal now, but then again most felt he had to pan-out for Tech to have a solid front anyhow.
The bottom line is that the possible loss of Dixon is a distraction but really doesn’t change how I view the Tech defense right now. It is a shame that he might not get to play, and it calls to light whether Tech coaches expended too much time and effort on a player that just hasn’t shown an ability to make it happen at the DI level, but aside from that it is much sound and fury about nothing, really.
Hopefully the early reports are wrong or this is just a paperwork issue for Dixon. It’ll be interesting to see what Don Williams has later tonight at www.redraiders.com on this this story.

This stinks, I’d love to know why he wasn’t able to get his grades in order.
Hopefully, for his sake and for Tech, it is just a “paperwork” issue and can be taken care of before too much time goes by. Seen it happen before.

Well, here we go again. UT has law problems, we have grades problems. Whoever it is that is in charge of ensuring the athletes are academically eligible needs to be fired. This is going on too often. They need to get a handle and HOLD it, not fumble it all over the place. If Dixon was not eligible, then why was he readmitted. If there is a paperwork error, someone needs to answer up. This kind of distraction, and time lost trying to develop a player and include that player in the scheme of things, both need to be addressed by Mike Leach, or the administration educational gurus. Dixon is a great talent, but if he is not, was not, ready academically to play, get rid of him and move on…and fire the guy responsible, again.
sorry, but totally disagree that if Dixon can’t play it is much ado about nothing as you imply. We have seen him in Big12 play. He was a freshman all-american. He is much more of a sure thing then Sesay in my humble opinion. that said, i hope Sesay lives up to the hype. however, dixon is supposed to be a huge part of the DE rotation (maybe even starter or at minimum 3rd option there). i unfortunately believe that a Tech D w/out dixon really is a D that isn’t as good and could even cost us a game.
Dixon’s loss leaves them a little then, but they may be able to compensate. I think that Tech has plenty in place to help the Student Athlete. The student has to put a little work in it. Put this one on Dixon. Maybe an appeal will work, but this guy has an obligation to do better than he has done.
Sorry I meant “thin”.
Larry, who on the UT campus in in charge of making sure athletes don’t get arrested? Maybe that guy needs to be fired, too.
There is no person at Tech paid to be “in charge of ensuring the athletes are academically eligible.” If Dixon doesn’t want to/can’t achieve the requisite grades to progress towards a college degree, whose fault is that?
