Good morning West Texans and all you good, fine, friendly folks out there who wish you were. . .
NFL DRAFT TIME
I’ve got friends that have rearranged wedding plans and having children around the NFL draft. I could understand that if they were in any danger of being selected but their chances were about the same as me getting drafted for Vietnam. Nope, they’re just part of that insane NFL-fandom that lives to hear Mel Kiper Jr. and Chris Berman talk for hours about “measurables”, “motors” and “wonderlics”. I can take a few hours but I can’t handle all day of draft watching. Unless ice-cold Landshark Lager is involved that is. http://www.landsharklager.com/default.aspx
TEXAS TECH PLAYERS IN THE DRAFT
This will most likely be the first year in a long-time Texas Tech won’t have a current player drafted. First off, there just weren’t that many guys to choose from with so few impact seniors moving on.
WR Danny Amendola is Tech’s best shot but he just didn’t wow the scouts the way he probably needed to in any of his workouts. There’s an outside chance someone will try and get a “Wes Welker” and take a flyer on him late, but he’d be better off having his agent place him on a team that can use him.
After that some folks may be surprised to hear the name Ofa Mohetau http://texastech.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/mohetau_ofa00.html
come up this weekend. Big Ofa was a big disappointment at Tech as on offensive lineman, but word around is that he’s worked with a personal trainer of late and has made his intentions know to NFL teams that he thinks, maybe, perhaps, he might be willing to uh, ya know, try this NFL thing. Maybe.
Given his lack of motivation at Tech it is doubtful a team will select him but he has all those numbers that Mel Kiper likes to talk about so I never say never when it comes to the draft. At the end of the day the NFL really doesn’t care about character, they’re just trying to win so nothing would shock me if Mohetau got picked. There was never any doubt about his talent, just his willingness to use it.
After that, it’s doubtful you’ll be hearing any Red Raider names in this draft. That of course will change in a major way next Spring. Heck, I might even watch that draft all the way through. Keep the Landshark Lager coming please!

One of my favorite yearly traditions will take place on Saturday when the entire room stands up and chants “J-E-T-S. Jets! Jets! Jets!” for 15 minutes. That is complete with spelling using arms and legs. But, it was rather tiresome the year they had 4 picks in the first round.
Big Ofa is one of those classic JuCo horror stories that seem to haunt Texas Tech. (James Wegner, Rashon Rasberry, Charlie Glover, Daniel Christian) I’ll say it. Ofa’s career at Tech was everything we hope Brandon SeSay’s won’t be.
I love me some NFL Draft.
